Tegaderm and Saniderm are transparent, waterproof dressings that create a barrier between your tattoo and the outside world, and all the bacteria that comes with it. These sterile dressings are ideal for healing tattoos in a contained and bacteria free environment and can adhere to any area of the body, while also boosting healing time.
Healing with this method is straightforward and easy to manage. Your artist may put the dressing in for you, or you may put it on yourself. After getting tattooed, leave the Initial bandage for 60 minutes and then wash with very warm water and unscented antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean towel, never rub! After cleaning the area, simply apply the dressing to the area, making sure all of the tattoo is covered evenly and without any air bubbles, which could cause an opening for bacteria and pollutants. Keep on for 3-7 days, making sure not to submerge the dressing in water to avoid lifting and water seeping in and creating excess. With this dressing on, fluid accumulation underneath the dressing is normal and nothing to be alarmed about; this is your body healing and creating plasma which will be reabsorbed back into body. With the dressing on, you now have a waterproof barrier protecting your new tattoo!
in order to remove the dressing, hop in the shower and run warm water to loosen the adhesive and make the process smoother. Slowly and carefully peel off the dressing, making sure not to tear or snag any healing or sensitive skin. Afterwards, Clean your tattoo using the above mentioned cleaning protocol and moisturize afterwards using a non scented body lotion, such as lubriderm. Your tattoo may look and feel healed after the dressing is off, however it is still not 100% healed and must exceed use caution. No swimming in pools or beaches, heavy tanning, and avoid baths with scented products or bath bombs that may irritate your healing tattoo for 2-3 weeks after getting tattooed.
