Dragon Party!

This is another fun, water color painting I did as a study for a Japanese Dragon tattoo. He's busting out with flames creating some Traditional Japanese puffy clouds and wind. Who wouldn't want to party with this dude? Day in and day out I strive to enhance or maybe perfect in a creative light how these magical creatures should be projected. Sometimes that leads to Dragon Parties. As always I am very appreciative of the work I have been tasked to do and the ability to express how I see things through this art.

Traditional Japanese Hannya Mask

He's big and he's scary looking, but never judge a mask by it's leering mouth. Traditionally Hannya masks were used in many "noh"(Japanese Plays) to represent the souls of women who have become demons due to obsession and jealousy. These "demons" can be demonic and dangerous, but they are truly tormented and full of sorrow. They've also been depicted as being serpent like, so here in this tattoo I've incorporated a snake wrapping itself around the mask. Traditional Japanese creatures; the dragon, tiger, the kitsune (fox), Hannya Masks, snakes, foo dogs, food myoos, plus many many more are what I'm about and what I've loved tattooing and had the pleasure of delving a bit into their legends.

Japanese Tiger Body Suit Painting

One of the many perks about what I do is being able to travel and meet all kinds of interesting people within this industry. This painting here was done for a man, the man, Clay Decker from True Tattoo in Hollywood California. It's a body suit with a Traditional Japanese motif going on. You got the cherry blossoms, wind bars, finger waves and last but definitely not least, the mighty Tiger. Very fun piece I had the pleasure of doing.

Chrysanthemum Tattoo Study

The Chrysanthemums are native to Asia and Northeastern Europe and come in a variety of colors. This is a water color painting that I have created to show an example of how those colors can come together to create depth within a flower tattoo. Definitely a great concept and study if you're into Asian culture and designs.

Japanese Dragon Back Piece

This tattoo of a Japanese dragon is still in progress. Tattooing like this takes time. I'm very fortunate to have clients with this type of dedication as is this on fellow tattooer and friend Joe Hawks, owner of Hawks Electric tattoo in Tampa Florida. Joe and I have been plugging away on this for a bit now . We are getting close to wrapping it up. It's always a little bittersweet, but I am glad to get them finished up. Never glad to be done! Only until this type of work seems finished can we really start to put in the extra work that will really start to separate if from the rest. And can get the extra tricks in for sure. I’ve worked with Z on a number of tattoos over the years and really appreciate his process and knowledge of Asian art. I love the relaxed vibe at Tabernacle Tattoo Tampa. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the artists use clean, top‑quality equipment. The studio’s location is convenient and easy to find, with plenty of parking. I visited Z back in 2022 and told him I wanted something unique, Japanese and traditional and he said “hold my beer” and he got to work. At first it was going to be a half sleeve and he convinced me to go full sleeve, best decision I made. He’s very respectful, responsible, professional and straight up down to earth. I was recommended to go see Kristen from my best friend and let me tell you, I am blown away by her skills. I sent her my tattoo inspo and she more than delivered. My tattoo is gorgeous, full of vibrant colors (normally I'm a black and gray gal) and I get so many compliments on my tattoo any time it's seen. Kristen herself is hilarious, understanding and just a complete joy to work with. She was more than forgiving when I'd have to take a short break to move around due to the position I had to lay in to get this beautiful piece of art. I will absolutely be going back for more tattoos from Kristen without a second thought!

Awesome small tattoo shop with an impressive portfolio of mostly large pieces. Z is an incredible artist and very easy to communicate with. Hands down the best tattoo shop in the Tampa area and consequently the best kept secret for customers who want the experiential value along with their art vision interpreted into a tattoo with real life and energy. Zenon has been around the tattoo world for decades, across different markets, both east and west coast, and has mastered multiple styles (realism, Japanese, traditional, etc). He will remain around long after the current trends of the overmarketed tattoo world have subsided. You can bet he can execute on any concept thrown at him and build it into a very unique and powerful tattoo that will inspire you. The client relationship driven focus here is a first that I have seen. Zenon's extreme attention to detail, honesty, and creativity is something that has to be experienced for anyone wanting a quality tattoo and experience. This review and pics included are both a recommendation and also my way of reminiscing, since they come from the pre-pandemic days of this year (Jan - Feb 2020). They are in reverse chronological order of a left arm sleeve done by Zenon (blank ink) and are best seen then textually interpreted.
